Hey there!
I’m David, the one responsible for most of what you see and read on this website. And that’s my lovely wife, travel partner, and mother of our two rambunctious boys, Lori!
Hammock Hoppers is our personal blog where we share our stories and adventures from two decades of overseas travel and living.
We’re currently making our way [slowly] around Mexico in a Class C RV. We’re finishing up our fourth year living in Mexico full-time with our two bilingual boys, Noe (age 8) and Riley (age 5).
Before RV life, we were based in Baja (La Paz) and Nayarit (Sayulita and Chacala).
Before Mexico, we lived in Laos and Cambodia for four years, where a great many of our expat life blog posts to date were written.
You’ll also find a wealth of helpful guides and travel stories from across Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Africa.
I started my very first travel blog all the way back in 2000 to document and share stories from studying in the UK and shoestring backpacking around Europe, before blogs were cool (and way before you could make any money from blogging).
Ten years later, a trip to the Dominican Republic resurrected the blog as AwayGoWe, where most of the stories you’ll find here lived until 2020. If you’re a longtime reader, you’ll probably notice a lot of similarities in design between the two sites!
AwayGoWe has since evolved into a popular bucket list destinations and adventure travel resource, and continues to grow in leaps and bounds, which I’m pretty amped about.
I like to keep some separation between business and personal, hence the split.
So, grab your favorite beverage and make yourself at home! Binge read some of the older content or just take a look around. We’re happy to have you along for the ride!
